Hari Raya Puasa
Hari Raya Puasa is a joyous Muslims festival which celebrates the end of Ramadlan. Muslims follow a religion called Islam. Hari Raya Puasa occurs on the first day of the tenth month of Islamic lunar calendar when you can see the new moon. Fasting during Ramadlan is one of the Five Pillars of Islam.
Most Muslims in Singapore are Malay,so many of the traditions practiced are Malay.In Singapore most people use the Malay term,Hari Raya Puasa,for this festival.It means’the day of celebrating the end of the fast’.In Arabic you say Aidilfitri or Eidul Fitri.
Ketupat are a popular festival food.They are a Malay tradition and are made of compressed rice boiled in woven coconut leaves.Ketupat made out of colourful ribbons are used for decorations.Cookies and tarts such as kueh tart,kueh bangkit and keuh makmur and also popular festive snacks

What do they do on this special day?
This is a special time to visit friends and relations.The visiting goes on for the whole month of Shawal.Don’t forget!Muslims only eat halal food,which means food that has been prepared or slaughtered by a Muslims only eat
with their right hand.
During visits,Muslims ask each other for forgiveness.They shake hands and says’Maaf zahir dan batin’.(‘Forgive me for any wrong doing that I may done.’)At this time of year,it is very important for Muslims to give money or food to those in need.

Ramadhan is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar when all fit and healthy Muslims fast from dawn until dust.They also go to special evening prayers called tarawih at the mosque and make a donation called zakat fitrah.
After putting on new clothes children ask their parents forgiveness for anything wrong they may have done in the past year. The wife then asks her husband. This asking of forgiveness is done in order of family seniority and means that everyone starts Hari Raya Puasa free of any bad feelings.

This Muslim festival is known as ‘The Festival of Sacrifice’ and it celebrates the end of the hajj to Makkah and how Prophet Abraham and his son were put to the test by God, or Allah .Muslims follow a religion called Islam.Hari Raya Haji occurs on the tenth day of Zulhijjah, the 12th month of the Islamis lunar calendar.
Every year thousand of Muslims from all over the world make special trip to Makkah, in Saudi Arabia.During the hajj, Muslim men walk around the Kaabah seven times.Muslims must try and make the hajj at least once in their lives so long as they are fit and have enough money to make the trip.
