Programmes for 2009

Public Speaking Competitions
Competitions for P1-P3 classes will be conducted as part of the Speak Good English Programme in April. The objective is to encourage pupils to speak standard English and to develop their confidence in speaking in front of their schoolmates.

My Viewpoint
“My Viewpoint” is conducted for P3-P5 classes to develop pupils’ confidence in public speaking and for pupils to air their views to their school mates. Classes are rostered to send at least two representatives to speak to the whole level on topics of their own choices. The programme is conducted once a week on a fixed day as determined by the level teachers. Pupils are encouraged to talk on the school values, their personal experiences , favourite games and sports.

Show and Tell for P1s and P2s
Show and Tell is conducted in the P1 and P2 classes to teach the pupils public speaking skills. It is hoped that through these sessions, pupils will develop
  • oral language skills (speaking in complete sentences and asking questions)
  • social skills (listening attentively, raising hands to speak and waiting to be called upon) and
  • confidence in speaking in front of their classmates.
  • The programme is conducted once a week in the classroom, on a fixed day as determined by the teacher, during curriculum time. Each pupil will have a turn per semester. Topics such as School Values and Sports are fixed for Show and Tell. Parents and pupils are informed in advance of the Show and Tell schedule and parents are asked to assist their children to prepare their speeches and to rehearse at home. Teachers take note of pupils’ progress in oral skills.
